Child
Passenger Safety
JCSO Child
Passenger Safety Team offers free inspections of installation
and use of child car seats. Speakers on child passenger safety
are available for small groups (daycares, preschools, playgroups,
civic organizations). JCSO periodically sponsors National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration child passenger safety
technician certification classes (4.5 days), Moving Children
through Childcare classes (12 hours), and 8-hour inspector
classes. Limited numbers of child car seats are available
to low-income families. 80% of child car seats are either
improperly installed or misused nationwide. Please call JCSO

AARP
Mature Driver Refresher Course (previously “55 Alive”)
Eight
hour driver refresher courses are offered throughout the county
– Pt. Townsend, Tri-area, Pt. Ludlow, Brinnon, Quilcene,
Cape George, and Gardiner. Car insurance companies are mandated
to give car insurance discounts to drivers 55 and over who
complete this course. Discounts vary from 5% to 10% for 2
to 3 years.
A $10
fee covers materials. Class dates and times are printed in
local newspapers or you may call JCSO at 385-3831 ext. 521
for more information.
Jefferson
County Traffic Safety School – ticket deferment program
Jefferson
County offers a 6-hour Traffic Safety School the first Saturday
of every month. The class is held at the Tri-Area Community
Center at 10 West Valley Road (intersection of Highway 19
and West Valley Road) from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Upon completion
of the class, and if no additional citation is received for
one year, the infraction will not appear on your driver’s
license history. You must request this program through a District/
Municipal Court mitigation hearing. The course may be taken
only once every seven years.

forms are available at Jefferson County District Court and
