The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, established in 1853,
is one of the oldest law enforcement organizations in the
state of Washington. We have been serving Jefferson County
for 150 years! Please feel free to browse these pages and

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to provide
non-discriminatory, effective and efficient law enforcement
service in protecting the life and property of the citizens
of Jefferson County, and to ensure that the constitutional
rights of all persons are protected. The Sheriff is the chief
executive officer and conservator of the peace of the county
as directed under RCW
36.28.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is located at the Justice
Center, 79 Elkins Road, Port Hadlock, Washington (360)
385-3831 (FAX 360-379-0521). The Sheriff's Office also maintains
an office at the Courthouse in Port Townsend, a substation
in Clearwater, and an annex in Quilcene.
The current population of Jefferson County is approximately
26,000 of which approximately 18,000 reside in unincorporated
areas. Jefferson County is 1,815 square miles. The Sheriff's
Office provides law enforcement services to all the unincorporated
area of the county.
The Sheriff's Office budget for fiscal year 2006 was $3,086,424.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has 47 full-time positions,
12 reserve deputies, and 20 volunteers. Entry level testing
for deputies is contracted with Public Safety Testing (www.publicsafetytesting.com).
The men and women of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office
will strive to provide the best possible law enforcement service
to the citizens of Jefferson County and serve as examples
of all that is good and professional in American law enforcement.

The mission of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is to
work in partnership with the citizens of our communities to
preserve the public peace, protect the rights of persons and
property, prevent crime, and provide assistance to persons
in urgent situations.
We will be courteous and professional in enforcing the laws
of Jefferson County, the State of Washington and the Constitution
of the United States.
Working with our citizens, we will strive to provide a professional
law enforcement presence to help increase the safety and security
of citizens and improve the quality of life in Jefferson County.
