Jefferson County (standard abbreviation: JF) is a county located in the state of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 18,426. Its county seat is Oskaloosa, Kansas6.

of it is water. The total area is 3.74% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 18,426 people, 6,830 households, and 5,190
families residing in the county. The population density is 13/km˛ (34/mi˛). There are 7,491
housing units at an average density of 5/km˛ (14/mi˛). The racial makeup of the
county is 96.70% White, 0.37% Black or African American, 0.92% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 1.41% from two or more races. 1.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,830 households out of which 35.70% have children under the age
of 18 living with them, 65.20% are married couples living together, 7.00% have a female householder
with no husband present, and 24.00% are non-families. 20.10% of all households
are made up of individuals and 9.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years
of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size
is 3.07.
