As of the census2 of 2000, there are 31,705 people, 12,148 households, and 8,430
families residing in the county. The population density is 34/km˛ (88/mi˛). There are 13,386 housing
units at an average density of 14/km˛ (37/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county
is 96.19% White, 1.45% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.39% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. 1.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 12,148 households out of which 32.00% have children under the age
of 18 living with them, 55.00% are married couples living together, 10.60% have a female
householder with no husband present, and 30.60% are non-families. 25.70% of all
