Jefferson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of 2000, the population is 84,278. The county seat is Pine Bluff. Jefferson County was formed on November 2, 1829 and named for Thomas Jefferson, President of the United States.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,366 km˛ (914 mi˛). 2,292 km˛ (885 mi˛) of it is land and 75 km˛ (29 mi˛)
of it is water. The total area is 3.16% water.

housing units at an average density of 15/km˛ (39/mi˛). The racial makeup of
the county is 48.46% White, 49.58% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.66% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 0.96% of the
population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 30,555 households out of which 33.10% have children under the age
of 18 living with them, 47.40% are married couples living together, 18.80% have a female
householder with no husband present, and 29.60% are non-families. 26.20% of all
households are made up of individuals and 10.60% have someone living alone who
is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.59 and the average
family size is 3.13.
