What We Do For The Community

We shelter animals who for a number of reasons have no home, or who have become lost. We provide these animals with food, shelter, love, and training while we try to find their owner or a new home.

Other Services

Provide a placement service and maintain a file of:

  • Animals in the community who need homes.
  • People in the community who are looking for pets.

From these lists, we attempt to match up animals with new homes.

Provide lost & found service and maintain a file of:

  • Animals that are lost.
  • Animals that are found.

From these lists, we attempt to match up animals.

Provide an adoption service.

Animals who come to the shelter are evaluated for their ability to love and respond to their human companions. These animals are made available to families and individuals the demonstrate they are responsible pet owners.

Provide emergency services.

We are on call 24 hours a day, and are dispatched by the sheriff's office to deal with bite cases and injured strays. The Sheriff's Office telephone number is: 360.385.3831.

Investigate complaints from individuals in regards to stray dogs, bite cases, neglect, dangerous animals or other violations of city and county ordinances. We pick-up dead cats and dogs that have been killed on city and county public roads.

We rent humane cat and raccoon traps so individuals can safely remove feral cats or raccoons from their property.

License domestic animals. (Dogs are REQUIRED to be licensed in both the city and county.)

Posting Bail

Bail is accepted 24 hours a day at the jail.

Bail can either be posted with cash, cashier checks, or a bond from a bail bond company.

When cash bail is posted, it is possible that the person paying the bail will receive the money back once the person that is bailed out has completed their court appearances.

Refunds are handled by the court of jurisdiction over the defendant’s case.

The Sheriff’s Office does not refund bail monies.

There are many bail bond companies that are authorized to write a bond in Jefferson County. They are listed in the yellow pages under "Bail Bonds." The bail bond companies generally charge 8-15 percent of the bail amount. This is their fee for writing the bond and is not refundable.

Once bail has been posted it may take 2-6 hours before the person is released. This will vary depending on day of week, time of day, and how many other releases are pending at the time the bail is received. We appreciate your patience and understanding of the importance of taking steps to insure that only the correct individuals are released.
