Red Cross - Olympic Peninsula Chapter to honor Deputy

The Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the American Red Cross has announced the selection of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Hyram Godsey as one of their “Olympic Peninsula’s Heroes of 2003”. According to the chapter’s Executive Director, Ms. Phyllis Darling, Deputy Godsey will be honored, along with others selected this year, at a breakfast at the Vern Burton Center in Port Angeles on November 7th at 7:45 AM.
The chapter honors “local people from Clallam and Jefferson Counties who have shown courage, compassion, and unselfish character (and who may have saved lives and performed extraordinary acts of heroism) when they helped someone in a time of emergency need. Categories include: Youth Good Samaritan, Citizen, Animal Rescue, Educator, Fire, Nature Rescue, Workplace Safety, Law Enforcement, and Community Service, among others.
Deputy
Godsey was selected in the Law Enforcement category for his
actions at the scene of a homicide in Chimacum on April 29,
2003. When Deputy Godsey arrived at the scene, the armed suspect
was there, along with 2 employees who had been bound to chairs
with duct tape. Deputy Godsey’s professional actions and
courage may have saved the lives of several people on this date.
