The Executive Director of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, Dr. Michael Parsons, has announced the appointment of Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Brasfield to a 6-year term on the Board on Law Enforcement Training Standards and Education (BLETSE).

The 13 member Board is comprised of representatives of Sheriffs, Police Chiefs, Deputies, Police Officers and college officials from across the state. By decree of the Washington State Legislature, the Board is responsible for reviewing and advising the Criminal Justice Training Commission on training and education needs of law enforcement officers statewide.

By law, these recommendations include:

  • Curriculum standards
  • Standards for instructors
  • Alternative and innovative interdisciplinary training and education techniques
  • Approval of training and education programs
  • Monitoring and evaluating training and education programs
  • Reporting on effectiveness of training and education programs

Sheriff Brasfield looks forward to participation on the Board, and to bringing the needs of local law enforcement to the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission
