On January 23, 2003, at approximately 11:58am, JEFFCOM dispatchers received a request for medical assistance at the Garden Court Apartments in Port Hadlock. It was initially reported that a 45 year old disabled man, and resident of the apartments, who is confined to a wheelchair, was found in his wheelchair bleeding from a head injury. Responding medical units arriving on scene learned the man’s injury was the result of an assault and summoned law enforcement to the scene.

Investigating deputies were able to obtain information from witnesses at the scene that lead to the arrest of four young men within an hour of the event. Three of the subjects arrest were located and taken into custody at Chimacum High School, where they are students. One of the students was 17 years of age and the other two were 18 years of age. The three students were released after being questioned by investigators.

The fourth suspect, a 20 year old Port Hadlock man, was arrested in Port Townsend and is being held in the Jefferson County Jail for investigation of the assault and burglary.

At this time, the case remains under investigation, however, it appears the suspect entered the man’s home and struck him on the head with an unknown object. A motive for the attack is yet to be determined. Two detectives are assigned to the investigation and are continuing the investigation.
